40 Deep Analysis

The song 40 Deep by Lecrae is a song about the people following Christ joining together and standing strong against the lies and the schemes of the Devil while reaching out and spreading the love of Christ.

In the first line of the song Lecrae states “Cliqued up 40 deep in the streets you can find us”. The word clique is referring to the 1-1-6 clique which is an organization in which all of the major Christian rap and hip hop artists have joined and anyone can join.1-1-6 refers to Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” This group is focused mainly on not being ashamed of being a Christian and working as hard as you can to reach out to the world. 40 deep simply means a group af around 40 people which is around howmany major rap and hip hop artists are a part of the 1-1-6 clique.

This song is mainly focused on banding together as Christians because the more of you there are, the easier it is to stand strong. During this song there are three members of the 1-1-6 clique that rap. Their names are Tedashii, Lecrae, and Trip Lee. This is also done to show their point of strength in numbers.

Throughout this song Lecrae, Tedashii, and Trip Lee talk a lot about coming together and fighting strong for God. Living a life in which you never give up no matter what you go through. This song is very inspirational in my opinion in encouraging me that I am not the only one going through struggles and that there are others out there who are having the same struggles as me.

There are also many metaphors and similes in the song such as a line sung by Trip Lee in which he states the “We livin’ by the blood like we parasites.” This doesn’t in any way mean that Christians drink blood or anything but rather that we live by the sacrifice Jesus Christ made when he died on the cross and that is what we fight for.

Lecrae, Trip Lee, and Tedashii wrote this song together to give hope and encouragement to Christians trying to fight for what is right and trying to reach out.
